Is Your Site Ready for the Erection Crew?
Setting the Stage for Steel
The efficiency of the erection phase relies heavily on site conditions upon mobilization. To keep the project schedule moving, certain prerequisites must be met before an erection crew can safely and effectively begin work.
Crucial Site Conditions
- Foundation and Anchor Bolts: The concrete slab or foundation must reach its required cure time. More importantly, anchor bolts must be precisely placed according to the manufacturer's anchor bolt plan, and the foundation must be level. Deviations often require engineering approval to remedy.
- Clear Staging Area: Steel packages require significant space for unloading and organization (shake-out). A compacted, level area adjacent to the slab is necessary to safely manage thousands of pounds of material.
- Equipment Access: Cranes and lifts require stable ground conditions and clear paths of travel around the perimeter of the building footprint.
- Site Access: Access roads must be capable of handling heavy flatbed deliveries and crane mobilization.
Communicating site conditions clearly with your erector prior to delivery helps mitigate costly delays.
